Spring/Summer 2023 Plus Size Fashion Trends

Spring/Summer 2023 Plus Size Fashion Trends

According to Google, "romantic ruffles, lace trims, chic corsetry and sheer slips have officially made their way from the bedroom to the runway, as seen at Simone Rocha, Christian Dior and Acne Studios" but how do these apply to the plus size world? Just in the same way they do to the "regular" sized world, but with slightly longer lines, sleeve accommodations for larger arms, and perhaps more stretch to fabrics.

Elle Canada reports that "self-expression is at an all-time high, and fashion is following suit, with feathers and sequins at Valentino, glitter and short shorts at Tom Ford and fringes and the most OTT trimmings at Germanier. More is more this season, and anything goes—on and off the dance floor".

Florals are perennially in fashion, Elle Canada continues, and this season, designers welcomed head-to-toe baroque-style blossoms, bold colours and matching (and clashing!) prints. There were embroidered flowers at Gucci, art-inspired blossoms at Erdem and vibrant mixed bouquets at Dries Van Noten.

We've also seen a growth, and a deep-rooted love, for all things GREEN. From the bold kelly green, to muted and romantic sages, to classic and rich emeralds, we're glad this colour is sprouting up this year in so many glorious shades.

Baby blue is also saying hello, according to Vogue France. "Gone are the days of the Barbiecore trend, with vivid pinks giving way to baby blues. This softer chromatic mood tinted the second skin silhouettes, which were resolutely fluid and innocent, at Prada, Burberry and Emporio Armani."

And with the new post-Covid work environment with many having home offices, comfort is still high on the outfit-of-the-day menu. "It's no surprise that a post-lockdown world is leaning towards more relaxed silhouettes, especially when it comes to our denim choices. I spend a lot of my days on social media (for work, naturally), and the jeans styles that I'm seeing across TikTok, Instagram, and Pinterest are so relaxed they might as well be joggers.", says Maxine Eggenberger of Who What Wear.

After having "scoured the runways of New York, London, Paris and Milan", Natasha Harding of Cosmopolitan says:

  • Cutouts
  • Purple
  • Low-rise
  • Sheer
  • Red
  • Tank tops
  • Bralettes
  • Oversized blazers
  • Hoods
  • Big bags
  • Underwear as outerwear
  • Pockets
  • Netting
  • Unbuttoned top {and}
  • Asymmetric hems

are what you're going to see and want in your closet.
